Medium
Gujarati Medium or English Medium for Science?
The medium decision quietly shapes two years of study. It deserves more thought than it usually gets.
Choose the medium the student thinks in. A student studying physics in a second language spends part of every problem translating before they can reason, and that cost compounds across two years. Gujarat Board science is available in both Gujarati and English medium.
The argument for English medium
Engineering and medical degrees in India are taught in English. Entrance exam papers are available in Gujarati, but degree study will not be.
So there is a genuine argument for making the switch early, while the syllabus is still manageable, rather than at degree level when the content is harder.
The argument for Gujarati medium
Science is difficult enough without a language tax on every question. A student who understands the concept in Gujarati has understood the concept. The English vocabulary can be layered on afterwards, and usually is.
Forcing an early switch often produces a student who is behind in both the subject and the language.
What we actually do
Gujarat Board students are taught in Gujarati medium or English medium, whichever they study in at school. Technical terms are taught in English regardless, because that is what the exam paper and the degree will use.
In practice most students end up bilingual in the subject, which is the outcome you want anyway.
