For parents
How do I choose a good coaching class?
Ask who will teach the batch by name, how many students are in it, whether written work is marked by hand and returned, and what happens when a student falls behind. Those four answers tell you more than any advertised result, because a wall of top scores tells you who was admitted, not what the teaching does.
Why advertised results mislead
A board showing five students who scored above 95 tells you the institute admitted five strong students. It says nothing about the average student, which is the one you are actually asking about.
The more useful question is what the institute does with a student who is struggling in October.
The questions that separate teaching from seat-filling
Who teaches this batch, by name, and will that person still be teaching it in February.
How many students are in the batch.
Is written work collected, marked by hand, and returned.
What happens when a student falls behind: does the class wait, or does the syllabus schedule win.
Will I be told honestly, and early, if my child is not on track.
Is the person selling me the seat the person who will teach it.
Board and medium
Confirm the batch is taught for your child's board, and in the medium they study in. A Gujarati-medium student placed in an English-medium batch loses time translating before they can begin reasoning.
Ask to sit in
An institute confident in its teaching will let you watch a class or speak to a current parent. A reluctance to allow either is itself an answer.

Talk to the teacher, not a counsellor.
Bring the student's last two report cards. You will get an honest read on where they stand and which batch actually helps, from the person who will do the teaching.
