Entrance exams

What is GUJCET?

GUJCET is the Gujarat Common Entrance Test, conducted by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board for admission to degree engineering, pharmacy and medical courses in Gujarat. Class 12 Science students sit it alongside their board exam, on the Class 12 syllabus, in a multiple-choice format.

Who sits GUJCET?

Class 12 Science students in Gujarat who want admission to a degree engineering, pharmacy or medical programme in the state. Group A (PCM) candidates sit Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; Group B (PCB) candidates sit Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

It is not restricted to Gujarat Board students. A CBSE student in Gujarat can sit GUJCET too, and many do, because it is the route into state quota seats.

How is GUJCET different from the board exam?

The syllabus overlaps almost entirely. What differs is the format and the clock. The board paper is written, and rewards structure and presentation. GUJCET is multiple choice against a timer, and rewards speed, accuracy and knowing when to skip.

This is why students who prepare for them as two separate jobs run out of time. The concept is learned once; only the practice format changes.

When is GUJCET held?

It is held around the Class 12 board examination period each year. Exact dates, the application window and the current paper pattern are published by the board and change from year to year, so check the official page rather than any coaching site, including this one.

How long does preparation take?

Serious candidates start in Class 11, because roughly half the material comes from the Class 11 syllabus. A student starting in Class 12 is compressing two years into one alongside a board exam.

Timed MCQ practice should start in the first month of preparation, not the last. Speed is built over months; it cannot be added in a final revision push.
