Comparison

What is the difference between Group A and Group B in Class 11 Science?

In Gujarat Board Class 11 and 12 Science, Group A is PCM: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, leading to engineering through GUJCET and JEE Main. Group B is PCB: Physics, Chemistry and Biology, leading to medicine through GUJCET and NEET. Physics and Chemistry are common to both.

What is shared and what differs

Physics and Chemistry are identical across both groups, and so is the board paper for those two subjects. The third subject is the whole difference: Mathematics for Group A, Biology for Group B.

That third subject then decides which entrance exam you sit, which decides which degree you can apply for.

Can you take both Mathematics and Biology?

Some schools allow a combined option, sometimes called Group AB. It keeps both doors open and it is a heavier load. Whether it is available depends on the school, so ask yours directly.

Taking it purely to defer the decision is usually a bad trade. The extra subject costs time in the two years where time is scarcest.

Which is harder?

Neither, in the abstract. Mathematics is harder for students who dislike multi-step problem solving; Biology is harder for students who struggle to retain detailed information.

The honest test is not which is easier but which you can sit with for two years without dread.

How CBSE names the same thing

CBSE does not use Group A and Group B. A CBSE student takes PCM or PCB. The content maps closely; only the vocabulary differs, which matters when you are searching for material.
