Comparison

Should I do a diploma or Class 12 Science to become an engineer?

Both reach a degree in engineering. Class 12 Science plus GUJCET or JEE Main is the direct route and takes four years of degree study. A three-year diploma after Class 10, then DDCET, enters the degree programme laterally and is often the better route for students who prefer practical work to theory.

The direct route

Class 10, then Class 11 and 12 Science Group A, then GUJCET or JEE Main, then a four-year degree.

It suits students who are comfortable with theory-heavy study and want to keep the option of a national institute through JEE Main open.

The diploma route

Class 10, then a three-year diploma in engineering, then DDCET into a degree programme.

It suits students who learn better by doing, and students for whom two more years of school science would be a struggle rather than a stretch. It also produces an employable qualification at the end of the diploma itself.

Is the diploma route considered lesser?

The degree at the end is the same degree. What differs is the path to it, and diploma entrants often arrive with better practical intuition and a harder adjustment to theory depth in the first two semesters.

That adjustment is real and worth planning support for, but it is not a ceiling.

The honest deciding question

Not which route is better, but which two years the student can actually sustain: two more years of school science, or three years of hands-on diploma work.
